GREEN BAY, Wis. – While Aaron Rodgers is hurt, another Packers star looks as if he’ll soon be returning to the field.
Linebacker Clay Matthews has been practicing on a limited basis this week with a “club” protecting his injured right thumb. He’s missed the last four games.
Matthews says he thinks he can play Sunday when the Philadelphia Eagles visit Lambeau Field. He’s slowly getting used to trying to go after the quarterback with essentially just one arm.
Coach Mike McCarthy thinks Matthews can be effective. He’ll bolster a defense that got burned by the Chicago Bears in a 27-20 loss last week.
Matthews says there’s added incentive to play with Rodgers sidelined because of a left collarbone injury. He says it’s time for other positions to elevate their games until Rodgers returns.
